A new project - ancient 14" Cemetery mower 414 GB

Holy smokes, look what landed on my driveway yesterday! I'd sure like to get some idea of how old it is. With the aluminum castings between the handles, I figure it must be back a good ways.

The nameplate is still on there, and is pictured below. It looks like the serial no. is 314187. Aw, company's here for Pappy's day. Talk to you all later!

Model number is 414 GB and purty durn sure that ain't "Gigabytes"!

So I can't edit my comment below and can't put more than 3 pictures here - so I created a gallery! The motor code is 92502 0765-03 73052228.

So, this little beauty seems quite a bit older than my 19" that Rocco made such a great motor for. I'm going by the Briggs & Stratton badging, the cast aluminum spacers for the handle, and little things like that.

It still has the original cast aluminum wheels!

But it's seen some use. Particularly:
1. No scalp plate
2. More recent "high lift" blade made from flat stock with the welded tabs.
3. Run/stop knob is gone, replaces with an ingenious little U-clamp fixture.
4. An interesting squeeze-bulb with sight glass on the oil fill. I've never seen one before.

So my questions:
1. Any idea how old this is?
2. Is there any chance the handle is not original? The handlebars have a rake to them so that they are different when you flip over the handle.
3. What's the odds that there are points and a condenser under that flywheel?
4. Do we have a spec for the factory green paint?
5. Should I give in to my son's request that I update it to the orange/black scheme?
6. is there any way to clean up the wheels?

& I guess I have to put all the pictures in the original post, so... back to that one!

Thanks all!

Nice post. Cool mower. Its a cemetary mower, so its seen some sacred ground. Its a 1973. Im really not familiar with that handle. Ive seen many original 14" and never that handle. Ive also seen many non-original handles on mowers. Its been almost 50 years. As far as the green paint i had member match it but lost the specs. Check the paint section of this site. Theres info there. If its original, theres points and condenser in it. The 14" doesnt come with a plate and the blades even I cant find anymore.

Little coincidence - I graduated high school in 1973! So yeah, wow, who knows where the handle came from? By the advertisement seen here, the 14" was new in 1967, with a different handle style than my 19" has - If I'd been on my toes, I could've grabbed that real nice one advertised here from mid-state Virginia with the nice handle similar to my 19".

I haven't had time to do anything with it, but I figure I'll either bend the handlebars flat or run bar stock up the tubes and re-drill tho holes so the handles lay flat.

And if it's points/condenser... wow, I haven't set points for an age! But the Briggs & Stratton book goes over it, so that doesn't concern me. Getting parts might! And you had a source for the stickers as well, as I recall.

I just mowed my back hill with the 19" last night. That thing is a beast!
