Seems like there are very few people talking sensation here. Everybody must be busy

Yeah, I don't know. Maybe the holidays and hunting. I myself am restoring 2 non-sensations for something else and I'm doing a very special Sensation mower that should be done for the new year and featured here. Tomorrow I'm picking up more metal to do the fixed landscaper style handles. One of the mowers I'm doing now has a self-propelled system and it's a bitch trying to get all the parts cleaned up and replacing stuff that hasn't been manufactured in 30 years. I did my last mow of the year yesterday and drained all the gas out of mine and my wife's. There's a ton of Sensation stuff going on here. I do wish people would post more.

My Sensation and Bobcat are sleeping for the winter. Notice Rocco how I mentioned the Sensation first and the Bobcat second? Lol! Well I dont have any winter projects. Im a mechanic for a Public Works Dept. so I get busy with broken plow trucks and equipment. I did however make a list of parts and things I want to do to the Sensation in the Spring. I have the 5hp. My throttle shaft has alot of play and its now affecting the idle. I hope that the throttle shaft is worn and that the shaft bore isnt wipped out. So im going to tear down the carb. Im going to clean up the cylinder and valves. I want to check the valve lash, and install a new head gasket. This engine is a power house! Its in very good health. I just can't see a full on restoration of the engine or chassis at this point in time. We have a decal guy that my shop uses and he made me the Commercial decal for the front of the deck. Looks nice! If anyone can let me know what the odds are that my throttle shaft bore maybe worn, please talk to me. Id love to save this original caburetor. My research also tells me that this carb is obsolete. Thanks guys, stay warm. Ted

Is this the right carb replacement for the 4hp sensation...? Think I have a circa 1982. Carb could use re-building; but think a new one wouldn't be a bad investment either for a fresh start and minimal downtime on my part. Actually depend on mine to cut my grass! Neighbor gave it to me years ago... a true beast. Great performer... feels like it could pull down a tree when running properly. Ethenol has surely tortured it through the years. Also interested in the proper re-build kit info for future service. Many thanks, gents! Look forward to your input and truly admire the machines featured here. Rocco, you will one day be re-furbing mine for me! Stunning work.

Looking forward to refurbishing your motor. If you want to send just your carb in, I'll make it look and work new again for 20 dollars. I'll soak and replace everything and send it back. At least that'll hold you over.

By Rocco

Will probably do that; but I ordered the "new" version off ebay...395957. For $ 35 I couldn't resist having a good backup.

Have to constantly clean a mikuni slide carb on a 2 cycle, 6 wheeler I have due to ethenol... Can't find a great solution for cleaning carbs of ethenol varnish but have heard the ultrasonic cleaners do a great job. What do you like to use on the briggs carbs? Besides the Sensation, I have other Briggs operated machinery/go carts... ? Will still be taking you up on the sensation cleanup/re-furb, though, as my know-how is a bit limited and not good on a full break-down etc. These old mahines are such works of mechanical/aesthetic art compared to the new crap.

Yeah, the ultrasonic cleaner is great for complex stuff with many nooks and crannies, the briggs carb does not really need it. I do a soak in a parts cleaner. Sometimes sandblast and paint. Just include your phone number so I can call you before I get started. And yes, I'm committed to preserving these mowers. I have so much going on right now.....

Cant wait for Spring. Thanks for all the help! My carburetor is rebuildable. Parts on order. Repaired leaking gas tank seam. Primed and painted gas tank. Bought a parts mower cheap. Wound up robbing the crankshaft protector and the 10inch blade flywheel. My 88 should be running good this season!
