Valves can be reused if so desired and in good condition. They can be tricky to remove without the proper tool but with a screwdriver the valve retainer can be leveraged up and over the valve stem groove and the valve will pop out.I place the stem in my drill and spin the valve head and seat against sandpaper in my hand to remove all carbon down to bare metal. the first 1/3rd of the stem will need that also. I then move progressively to finer and finer paper (1200 grit) until there's a mirror finish on all surfaces.
