You spoke, I listened. Yahoo groups became so user-unfriendly I finally got in gear and made this site happen. Thanks to Nate for setting this up and doing basically all the work.
The plan
There is a lot of content over on the Yahoo site and the plan is to construct a way to organize the information found there and make it available in a way that makes it easier to find and share. I'm not entirely sure how things will unfold, and I'm going to be trying various things as we go. One thing I've used elsewhere is something called subscriptions which means that (once I set that up) if you have an account here you'll be able to get an email notification that something was added or updated here. This is good for folks that don't want to have to come to the site every day only to find nothing new - which gets frustrating! Other stuff I'm working on is figuring out a way to make creating photo galleries easier for folks and how to arrange them here. Ideas are welcome!
Hello!
Well, I'm very happy with a very nice new site. I was away pounding on site work all last week and didn't get to create my account until today. I couldn't post this in a new topic, so if you wnat to move it to an "introductions" thread, please feel free to do so.
By way of introduction I am the fellow who purchased a 19" Sensation with a flip-over handle in 1981. It's still in use every summer, on it's 3rd engine (I'm not an engine rebuilder... yet).
I live in Western Pennsylvania, and I have plenty of banks and hillsides to mow. To me, this is where this design excels. Not having to turn around on a bank is extremely efficient - just flip over the handle and head the other way! Plus I can keep the clippings 'chute pointed way from the house, etc. And being able to trim on both sides and the front is the icing on the cake, as well as allowing greater maneuverability in tight places.
Mechanically, the scalp plate and extra heavy blade means extra inertia when you hit a heavy patch. My father-in-law used to say of his that "it thrived on abuse." Too bad that deck ended up getting lost - long story. He was a little crazy, though - in order to be able to trim all the way around as well as reduce clogging in the really high stuff, he'd cut the chute off flush with the outside diameter of the deck! I REALLY don't recommend that. We always wear steel toed shoes, but that's just a step too far for safety. It was fierce looking at that blade spinning right there!
Anyway, my wife asks me when I'm going to get rid of "that thing". I told her when you see Ol' Scratch lacing up his ice skates and buttoning up his overcoat!
Congratulations on the new site!
Best,
Tom
Thanks for joining!
Thanks for joining! It's a work in progress, It will be come more user friendly as we go and of course suggestions are always welcome. The funny thing about these mowers is that everyone seems to have some sort of childhood memories of "Dad" with these beasts just mowing through anything and flinging sticks and rocks out in all directions dinging up our shins!
Permissions
As Tom pointed out, logged in users were unable to do very much as I had neglected to give them any permissions! I have fixed this, and now when you're logged in you should be able to create new topics in the forums, edit your own topics, add and edit your own albums and images and change your own username. This is still very much a work in progress - I had hoped to get a bunch more content set up by now but have been swamped of late. Thanks!

I'd been directed to here from the Yahoo! Group of the same name.
