Modded cam...

Now I have a 5hp camshaft welded to the 3.5hp gear and able to physically fit in the block. Excellent!! 1/10 of an inch increased lift and a much more powerful engine right? Not so fast. Internally there are many clearance issues. Due to the extra 0.10" of lobe lift on the cam noses, there is now interference on several parts on the other internal rotating parts of the engine, the intake cam lobe nose now will hit the leading edge of the connecting rod cap during a rotation, and the exhaust lobe nose will now contact the crank counterweight during its rotation. Also the oblong shape of the middle of the new shaft between the lobes (along with the weld) will now contact the trailing end of the connecting rod bolt. See pics...
