There's plenty going on over here, just not a ton of results to post (yet). In the mean time I'll post a Sensation tribute of a recent restoration I did of a Briggs WMB motor. I did it Sensation Orange. I included a "before" pic. And yes... It's the same motor.
I scored a 21" side discharge mower with fixed handle. Seems rare to me, It had a set up for front wheel drive. It also has a cast-in crankshaft protector. The front of the mower has some sort of boss cast into it which I promptly removed. Also a few holes to fill in.
I had a tough time figuring out which motor to swap my newly reground cam into. I originally wanted to put it into a 4hp rebuild I had laying around but then boredom struck. Since my 3.5hp workhorse mower has been the recipient of every upgrade I came up with I decided to put the cam in there. Click title to read on... Once old cam was out I realized that the 4hp cam does not fit. I decided to quickly weld up material onto the lobes on the 3.5hp cam and grind..
I added 0.010" of lift to both lobes of this camshaft for a 4HP Briggs motor that's going into my next secret project. Should boost power significantly.
It would be unfair to call this a "restoration". This is as close to a brand new NOS original Sensation Lawnmower you're going to find. The Deck is fully original and refurbished, The wheels are brand new NOS Sensation wheels, The motor is built from brand new NOS original Briggs & Stratton parts in full Sensation specs. It's featured in the NOS 4HP build-up. Hear it run.
Fortunately Sensation has only a few colors that need to be matched in order to maintain or restore your machines. Most of the colors can be very closely matched with off the shelf rattle cans. I will post/list what I have come across through much trial and error over the years to keep my mowers new looking. Just click the title link. One main concern is obviously engine heat but it turns out it's not much of an issue as it seems.
UPDATE * (Putting the finishing touches on a restored deck that's going to run the NOS 4hp build-up motor. Also I'm working on a custom cam that I added 0.010" lift to both lobes that I'm going to put into another 4hp motor destined for the green side discharge mower. Stay tuned.) Here's a glimpse of what's going on in the shop now. Just refurbishing a deck to put my 4HP NOS block on and also scored a real neat side discharge mower. Was front wheel self propelled at one time.
